THE FOREST CAMP

The holes of the earth huts at the forest camp, the concrete foundations of latrines and the foundations of functional buildings and wells are still visible. The fence that sourrounded the area is only recognizable by the holes of its posts. In the north-west of the camp site foundations can be detected from a functional building which was never completed.

Accommodation

In the Muehldorf camps, prisoners were crammed into wooden barracks, tent-like constructions made of plywood sheets and earth huts. It was constantly damp and cold in the dwellings.

Earth huts that reached one meter down into the ground were built in forest camp V/VI beginning in autumn 1944. They were intended to serve as winter accommodation. According to the plans, there was room for around 20 people, but they were constantly overcrowded. There was a small, brick oven in the middle of the earth huts, which could only be heated occasionally.
