VICTIMS’ CEMETERY NEUMARKT-ST. VEIT

The cemetery is located near the State Road B 299 on your way from Muehldorf. About 200 meters after leaving the city a hedge surrounds an area designed like a park, with deciduous trees and ornamental shrubs. The inscription on the left-hand gatepost translates to: “Last resting place of 392 Nazi victims + April 1945”, while the right-hand gatepost translates to: “Wanderer, do not pass by – let love erase / what hate has done”. A path paved with stone slabs leads straightly to a crucifix, if you turn right instead you reach a Jewish memorial surrounded by ornamental shrubs, bearing the inscription: “Your Word Is a Lamp to My Feet (Psalm 119)”. Symbolic gravestones with Jewish and Christian symbols have been placed on the grass and along the fence.
